Becoming a Director on the Board of ROI
THANK YOU for your interest in becoming a Director on the Board of the Rural Ontario Institute (ROI). The directors include 12 or more individuals from across Ontario who give of their time and talents to ensure that the programs and services of ROI are relevant, appropriate and in keeping with the mission and mandate of the organization.
Our vision is simple – “building Vision, Voice and Leadership for a strong and vibrant rural Ontario”; and our mission strategic – “Developing leaders, initiating dialogue, supporting collaboration and promoting action on issues and opportunities facing rural Ontario.”
The Rural Ontario Institute is governed as a non-profit organization through the organization’s bylaws and the Board policies. ROI is also a registered charity under the Canada Revenue Agency and, as such, can issue charitable tax receipts to donors.
The Board of Directors meets regularly throughout the year. The meetings are usually held at the ROI office north of Guelph. Directors are expected to prepare for, attend and participate in these very important meetings. Directors receive a pre-board meeting information package prior to the meetings.
The Board has put in place a number of standing and management committees to support its mandate, programs and activities. Directors are expected to take an active and participative role in these committees as necessary.
Staff of the Rural Ontario Institute carry out the day-to-day operations of the organization at the ROI office, located at 5653 Highway #6N, R.R. #5 Guelph, ON N1H 6J2. The office phone number is (519) 826-4204.
